About

Asher Levine’s fifth collection, Autumn/Winter 2012, continues his descent into the current socio-political psychology by focusing on a decadently despotic, futurist society characterized by a pragmatic, functional flair and strong military presence. The society is unable to reconcile its’ unforeseeable future with its’ certain present. The collection combines the utility for a dynamic and unexpected tomorrow with the self-indulgence and opulence of an assured today. The clothes this season are more polished and sharp yet remain true to the brand’s flair for the intellectual.

The world that he conceptualizes provides a fertile ground for his imagination to run wild and his designs to take shape. Levine, originally from Port Charlotte, FL, started his eponymous label in the basement of his Greenwich Village apartment. It wasn’t long before his luridly edgy menswear designs became a favorite in the downtown New York community.

The work, often heavily influenced by the natural world, not only flirts with the ideas of the visceral, but also, explores the human figure and its condition. His seductive designs move between: fluidity and rigidity; beauty and disfigurement; abstraction and form; darkness and lightness.

As a result, his clothes often spectacularly engineered are just that, a spectacle, which has given him both a cult-like underground following in addition to a strong celebrity clientele with the likes of: Lady GaGa, The Black Eyed Peas, Bruno Mars, Sam Sparro and the Scissor Sisters – just to name a few.
